Marinara Sauce

This is my first attempt at using pen and watercolor. I've been inspired by looking at sketches from members of the everydaymatters group and have always wanted to try it. I used a .03 micron pen and then added the watercolor washes. The micron did run a bit in a few places, including the garlic. It actually helped with giving the garlic a grayish look.

These are some of the ingredients used to make a marinara sauce this afternoon. The spaghetti squash will be the vehicle for eating the sauce!

Art Table Experiment

This is an experiment with a waterbrush filled with Dr.Ph.Martin's Hydrus sepia watercolor. The paper was the Aquabee Super Delux. The watercolor did not really sink into the paper much. I'm thinking I should mix some more water in with the ink in the waterbrush. The scene is of the table that I have set up to "do art".

Glass Bookshelves

Attempting to push myself towards more value sketches with pen (see "The Beginning"). I worked for a while on the draping fabric and the case on the left, while the other bookcases remain unfinished.

Hand

This is my first attempt at sketching a hand. It is my left hand holding the page on my lap (on the bus) while I draw it with my right hand.

December Calendar

The third month of marking every day. I've decided to (and have been) work a calendar for January, too.

November Calendar

This is the second month of drawings marking an event or scene from each day of the month. Very fun to do!

Shiva

This is a sketch of a sculpture of Shiva from the Denver Museum of Art. It isn't quite finished, but I like it.

The Beginning

This is a sketch of the edge of a rock cliff overlooking a vast long valley. It is indicative of my "sketching the essence" style. With the added motivation of this blog, I hope to push beyond the "outliney" style and "sketch the essence" with more depth and value.
